A Farmhouse Door

We got a new front door.
A new farmhouse door.
Doesn’t that seem like such a simple thing?
Nothing earth shattering.
Nothing even remotely unique.
Or inventive.
Or special.

But for me it is.
You see…..there used to be a really impressive door here.
It had leaded glass and swirl patterns of birds chirping to each other carrying banners intertwined with vines and leaves and all kinds of exotic plant life.
It was a door that made you sit up and take notice.
A real head-turner.
Everything about it…. said….look at me…..”I’m fancy.”
 Now don’t get me wrong.
I like fancy.
I mean…..after all…..I do wear red lipstick.
And highlight my hair.
And wear sunglasses.
And if that’s not fancy….I don’t know what is.
But I live in a farmhouse….in Kentucky…..in the middle of the country.
So when it comes to my doors, I wanted a front door that was simple.
And looked solid and welcoming.
A door that made you want to knock on it.
A door that would always open for friends and family.

A door that would say…..”We have sweet tea inside and we’re about to start a bonfire out in the back pasture and we just picked some fresh vegetables and there’s a hot apple pie sitting on the stove and someone brought over a guitar and kick your shoes off and join us.”

Give Your Bedroom Joshua Tree Vibes With These Desert-Themed Pillows

Okay, check it: I JUST learned how to sew a couple of months ago. Granted, I had some basic knowledge and SORTA knew my way around a sewing machine, but I recently took a sewing boot camp class (at the amazing Workshop SF with the talented Jenny Lemons) to really lock it down. And with that, I wanted to test out my newly acquired sewing skills to add a little desertchic (it’s so hot RN) to the bedroom with some fun, colorful pillows. I’ll show you how to make three pillows - easy, medium and difficult - so you too can have a dreamy bedroom with some serious desert vibes. But please note this one caveat: The skill levels I’ve assigned to the pillows are based on my very entry-level sewing skills. Pro seamstresses could probably whip these out in no time. So, if you’re like me and want to get reacquainted with your sewing machine, scroll on and see how it’s done.

Roll Back to the ’80s With a Pair of DIY Sequin Skates

If you haven’t heard, ’80s fashion is *SO* in. While there are definitely some trends that should stay in that decade, I’m all in for other looks like graphic sweatshirts and holographic apparel. When I brainstormed what I should do for this shoot, I looked up ’80s fashion and saw this awesome roller skating photo, and it was like a light when on! I wanted - no, I needed to DIY roller skates.
Decorating your roller skates with sequin polka dots is really simple. Depending on how many dots you do, you can definitely finish this DIY in a couple of hours or less. All you need then are knee socks, and boom - you’re a roller girl!
